Our Commitment
Nicola’s is grounded in the same vision that guides Scotland’s National Suicide‑Prevention Strategy, Creating Hope Together — a long‑term commitment to reducing suicide deaths and building compassionate, stigma‑free communities across the country. This national strategy emphasises early intervention, community connection, and ensuring that anyone experiencing distress can access timely, understanding support. It highlights the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces and working collaboratively across services, communities, and voluntary organisations.
We have lived experience of how suicide can affect a family. We lost Nicola to suicide in 2024. She had been experiencing chronic pain for many year due to endometriosis and her operation was cancelled the week before.

At Nicola’s, we reflect these same principles. Our focus on women’s health, mental wellbeing, and early prevention aligns closely with Scotland’s goal of helping people access support long before they reach crisis point. The national strategy also stresses the importance of strengthening community‑based responses, peer support, and reducing stigma — especially for groups who may feel unheard or unsupported.
By offering a warm, non‑clinical space where women can talk openly, connect with others, and feel less alone, Nicola’s contributes to Scotland’s wider aim of creating compassionate communities that understand how to respond to distress with kindness, time, and care. This reflects the principles of Time, Space, Compassion, which sit at the heart of Scotland’s prevention work and guide how people and families should be supported.
Nicola’s also shares Scotland’s commitment to awareness‑raising and early prevention. The national strategy recognises that reducing stigma, improving understanding of suicidal distress, and encouraging early conversations are essential to preventing harm. At Nicola’s, we work to create this openness — empowering women to speak about their wellbeing, seek help early, and feel supported within their community.
Although Nicola’s was founded in memory of Nicola Thyne, our purpose is future‑focused: to support women, encourage early help‑seeking, and contribute to Scotland’s broader ambition of building communities where every person can feel connected, valued, and hopeful.
