Our Story
With over 37 years’ experience as a Mental Health Nurse, I have worked across a range of settings including Forensic, Adult, Primary Care, and Older Adult Services. This experience has given me a broad understanding of how people access mental health and wellbeing support in their communities, and the importance of compassionate, timely help.
Over time, I became increasingly aware that many women can feel isolated and would benefit from safe, non‑clinical spaces for connection, conversation, and mutual support. I also recognise the ongoing pressures across GP and NHS services, and the value of community‑based support that works alongside statutory care, not in place of it.
This led me to create an additional supportive space where women can come together, share experiences, and feel less alone. That vision became Nicola’s — a community group created for women, by women. A place to talk openly, learn together, and be reminded that you are not alone.
Nicola’s is also deeply personal. In 2024, our family lost Nicola Thyne, who died after many years of living with chronic pain associated with endometriosis. She was bright, beautiful, deeply loved, and her loss continues to strengthen our commitment to improving understanding of women’s health and wellbeing.
In February 2025, with her mum Elaine’s consent, I founded Nicola’s in her name — to honour her memory, to support other women, and to encourage conversations that matter. The name “Nicola’s” was chosen deliberately — so it feels like visiting a friend. Because Nicola truly was everyone’s friend.
Alongside our focus on women’s health and mental wellbeing, Nicola’s is committed to early prevention, awareness, and safety‑focused conversations. We recognise the importance of reaching out early, reducing stigma, and helping women feel confident seeking support before struggles become overwhelming. Our hope is to help women feel heard, connected, and supported long before they reach crisis point, and to gently raise awareness of how communities can look out for one another.
At Nicola’s, we believe that understanding, connection, and early support truly can change lives — and every woman deserves a place where she feels safe, valued, and never alone.
