Here are various support and resources which are available to women struggling with their mental health

If you or someone you know is struggling or feeling overwhelmed, these services offer support 24/7:

  • Samaritans – 24/7 emotional listening support

  • Breathing Space (Scotland) – For individuals feeling low, anxious, or isolated

West Space Online Mental Health Resource West Lothian: 
What is West Space?

West Space is an online mental health and wellbeing resource specifically designed for people living or working in West Lothian. Key functions: 

  • It provides a directory of local services: users can search for support by type (e.g., counselling, peer-support, advocacy), audience (e.g., carers, students), age group, and area within West Lothian.  

  • It offers self-help materials and guides: including free & low-cost counselling, apps for mindfulness, CBT resources, information for children & young people, and practical support (housing, money

  • It promotes positive mental health and wellbeing activities: via connecting people to local activities/places, encouraging the “Five Ways to Wellbeing”, and providing seasonal or thematic content (e.g., winter wellbeing).  

  • It serves as a platform for awareness and support: offering “Need help now” sections, service directory, and sign-posting for more intensive help (including crisis support).

At Nicola’s, we know how important it is for women to have access to reliable, compassionate information when life feels overwhelming. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, low mood, menopause changes, grief, or simply trying to understand your own wellbeing better, it helps to have a place you can trust.

One of the best resources available in Scotland is NHS Inform Mental Health.
It offers clear, easy-to-understand guidance on a wide range of mental health topics, including:

  • Understanding symptoms

  • Self-help tips and online tools

  • When to seek further support

  • How to navigate services

  • Support for families, carer's and young people

  • Urgent help if you’re in crisis

Voluntary Sector Gateway WL is the Third Sector Interface (TSI) for West Lothian:

Supports and develop the local Third Sector, which includes charities, social enterprises, and community groups led by volunteers. Discover their Free West Lothian Locator which will help you easily discover and locate essential services across West Lothian. Each listing (where available) includes the service name, organisation, a brief description, service type, and contact details such as phone number, email, and website or social media links.

Nicolas took part in the Baton of Hope 

The Baton of Hope has recently West Lothian, leaving behind a powerful message of support and resilience. This inspiring initiative brought the community together, encouraging meaningful conversations about mental health.

The Baton of Hope is the UK’s biggest suicide prevention initiative happened all over Britain including West Lothian. 60 Baton Bearers took part.

The West Lothian Walk was organised by Donna Harvie from the Neil's Hugs Foundation.
