Women's Health
At Nicola’s – Supporting Women, we are proud to align our work with Scotland’s Women’s Health Plan, which sets out national priorities to improve health outcomes for women and girls. The Plan focuses on key areas to help reduce inequalities in women’s general health. The main topics are: Menstrual Health & Menopause, Endometriosis, Sexual Health & Contraception, Pregnancy & Reproductive Care, Brain & Mental Health, Preventative Care & Screening.

Nicola's supports these priorities by providing a safe, community‑led space for women, raising awareness of women’s health inequalities, and signposting to trusted NHS Inform resources across all major women’s‑health topics. We bring these priorities to life through local support groups, wellbeing sessions, mental‑health resources, and advocacy informed by lived experience.
By ensuring our services reflect the same aims as the national Women’s Health Plan, we are committed to helping women access clear information, compassionate support, and a community that understands their health journey. We’ve gathered a list of trusted resources from NHS Inform and local services to help you explore these areas. Be prepared when you go to your GP. It’s OK to Ask.
When you understand what’s going on with your health, you can make better decisions around your care and treatment.
Asking the right questions - It’s important to know what’s going on with your own healthcare. Knowing the right questions to ask can make all the difference. By being more involved, you’ll be able to make better decisions about your own care and treatment. To help you get the most out of your next appointment, there are 4 key questions it’s worth remembering to ask.
1. What are the benefits of my treatment? Your healthcare professional will be able to explain why they think a certain treatment would be the best option for you compared to other treatments available.
2. What are the risks of my treatment? Your healthcare professional will be able to explain the risks or possible side effects of your treatment. They’ll reassure you about any concerns you may have.
3. Any alternative treatments I can try? Your healthcare professional will be able to outline any alternative treatments that may be available to you.
4. What if I do nothing? Your healthcare professional can explain what may happen if you choose not to go ahead with your planned treatment.
